Learn to Scuba-Dive with DIVE CALIFORNIA. Here at DIVE CALIFORNIA we believe a good DIVER is always learning.  One aspect of our mission at DIVE CALIFORNIA is to make good divers better.

We are San Diego's most customer oriented and friendly Scuba-Diving Facility, offering all Levels of instruction for individuals and families, with a great variety of Courses and Workshops starting every month of the year.  We have regularly scheduled courses in most categories, but for our schedule-challenged clients we also offer flex-scheduling and private courses.

Just about everyone can become a certified Scuba-Diver. Scuba Diving is an equal opportunity sport open to men, women and children of any race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap or familial status. However, there are a few limitations on age and health for safety purposes.  Anyone 15 years or older can become an Open Water Diver. Children between the age of 10 and 15 can receive the Junior Open Water Diver certification. At the age of 15 they can upgrade to a regular Open Water Diver certification.
  
To provide more personalized instruction we limit class size to a maximum of five (5) students.  In addition, all Dive California students enjoy our packaged, competitive pricing as well as a 15% discount on all non-sale dive gear purchased at Dive California during their course (some restrictions apply). Call TODAY for pricing and availability!

                                    
 

SCUBA COURSES & WORKSHOP'S Offered at DIVE CALIFORNIA

New to Diving?  We recommend one the following courses:

         Discover SCUBA - The Discover SCUBA Diving program lets you experience the thrill of diving under the supervision of a PADI Professional under pool conditions. During your adventure, you'll master some basic concepts and scuba skills and might even head off to experience an open water adventure.

         SCUBA-Review/Refresher Course - The refresher course is for the certified diver who hasn't been in the water for awhile. In this course you'll review dive skills in the pool prior to doing an ocean dive with the Dive California instructor. 

         Open Water Diver Course - In the Open Water Diver course, your Dive California Instructor will take you through the basics of learning how to scuba dive. Following an evening class, you'll start in a pool and progress to the open ocean, getting the background knowledge along the way.

         Open Water Diver Referral 1 (Academics & Pool) - This course is designed for customers who prefer to complete the academic and confined water (pool) portions of the Open Water Diver course locally, and then complete their four open water certification dives in tropical waters with greater visibility.

        
 Open Water Diver Referral 2 (4 Open Water Dives) - Another option available to our out of town clients coming to San Diego involves completing their academic and confined water portions in their home area, and completing the four ocean certification dives with a Dive California Instructor. 

         Private Open Water Diver Course
- For those customers with scheduling challenges or tight time frame requirements, we also offer Private Open Water Courses tailored to your needs.

         
SDI Solo Diver Course - In the SDI Solo Diver course, your Dive California Instructor examines the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for planning and conducting solo dives.  Completing this course empowers you with specific knowledge, enabling you to make a sound risk analysis when engaging in this type of diving.

           HSA's Handicapped Scuba Course - this is a multilevel certification training program so exacting and sensitive it enables us to train people with a wide range of disabilities, including paraplegia, quadriplegia, even the blind or those with high-functioning brain injuries or mild retardation. HSA Open Water Divers are certified as Level A, B or C according to the diver's particular disability. 

Please Note Extra dives can be added to any course for a nominal fee of $50.00 per dive

Continuing Your Diver Education?  DIVE CALIFORNIA offers the following courses:

         Advanced Open Water Diver Course - In the Advanced Course you'll master critical diving skills like underwater navigation and buoyancy control.  You'll complete five dives in the Advanced Course, including a deep dive (60 to 100 feet), a night dive, and gain an introduction to specialties such as digital underwater photography, wreck diving and others of particular interest to you. 

           Emergency First Response (EFR) Course -
The EFR class is offered to divers and non-divers alike.  It’s a great class for everyone in the family.  Course curriculum includes Child/infant CPR, Adult CPR and both first and secondary care first aid.

         DAN Oxygen First Aid Course - This course includes hands-on experience with emergency oxygen delivery systems specifically designed for diving injuries, several types of pocket masks and practice on mannequins and your fellow classmates

         DAN Remo2 Course - The DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2TM) Training Module is designed for those customers who have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course within the past 12 months. The objective of the DAN REMO2 Training Module is to train and educate DAN Oxygen Providers in the techniques of using the DAN REMO2 System as first aid for a suspected dive injury.

        Rescue Diver Course - Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During the five open water sessions, you'll cover self-rescue and diver stress, emergency oxygen delivery systems, dive first aid, swimming and non-swimming rescue techniques, emergency management and equipment, panicked diver response, underwater problems, missing diver procedures, surfacing with an unconscious diver, in-water rescue breathing protocols, exits, first aid procedures for pressure related accidents, and dive accident scenarios.

        Private Rescue Diver Course
- We also provide Private Rescue Diver Courses, although because of the interactive nature of the Rescue Diver Course we recommend that you have a minimum of three people for this course.
 
        Master SCUBA Diver Course - Master SCUBA Diver is the highest recreational diving certification you can achieve.  To become a Master Scuba Diver you must log 50 dives, hold a Rescue Diver Certification, and complete Five Specialty Diver courses (please refer to Specialty Course information below).

        Divemaster Course - Take the first step in your dive career and become a PADI Divemaster. Working closely with a Dive California Instructor, you'll expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills as you become a dive professional. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities by training you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.

Expanding Your Diver Education to Include Specialty Diving?  We recommend one of the following Specialty Courses:

Courses with no Dives:

      Equipment Specialist - Whether it's a regulator problem, a wet suit tear or a broken mask strap, the Equipment Specialist course can help. This Specialty course prepares you for the basic equipment maintenance, care and adjustments you'll encounter every day. 

      Enriched Air Nitrox
- During the Enriched Air Nitrox Course you'll be able to select the appropriate nitrox mixture for your planned depth, analyze the mix to insure accuracy and safety, and determine the oxygen exposure limits after each dive. We also offer this course online through SDI.

Courses with 2 Dives:

    
  Dry-Suit Diver - During the Dry Suit Diver Specialty course you'll cover the background knowledge related to dry suit diving, get into confined water to put that theory into practice, and complete two open water dives, applying that knowledge, including dive planning, organization, techniques, problem solving and buoyancy control.

      U/W-Naturalist -
During the Underwater Naturalist Specialty course you'll learn underwater naturalist dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problem solving. You'll also get an overview of the major aquatic life groupings, interactions and factual information that dispels negative myths. You'll put this information into practice during your two open water dives.

      Night Diver - Local dive sites offer a whole new adventure by moonlight! During the Night Diver Course you’ll go on two open water dives. You'll learn to prepare night dive activities and develop your knowledge and techniques for night diving, including planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of night diving.  You'll also learn proper procedures for buoyancy control, navigation and communication, use of dive lights and buddy-system techniques, disorientation and emergency procedures, and orientation to nocturnal aquatic life.

      Peak Performance Buoyancy Float effortlessly, drifting over reefs. Be the diver you want to be, with ultimate buoyancy control, able to hover close to the bottom and examine underwater organisms without touching them.

      U/W Digital Photography -
Wouldn’t you like to show your friends how beautiful the underwater world and scuba diving is? If so, this course is the right one for you! By taking the U/W Digital Photography Specialty course you’ll soon be making pictures like the pros.  During the U/W Digital Photography Specialty course you learn to use the SEA (Shoot, Examine and Adjust) method.

      Enriched Air/Nitrox (with 2 Beach Dives)
- During the Enriched Air Course you will be able to select the appropriate nitrox mixture for your planned depth, analyze the mix to insure accuracy and safety, and determine the oxygen exposure limits after each dive. 

      Boat Diver -
The Boat Diver Specialty course can benefit almost every diver because different boats in different parts of the world do things differently. The Boat Diver Specialty course familiarizes you with the various ways you stow gear, enter and exit the water, use surface lines and more, depending upon the type of boat and the location.

Courses with 3 Dives:

      Underwater Navigator -
Underwater navigation can be challenging, but in the Underwater Navigator Specialty course, you master the challenge.You learn the tools of the trade, including navigation via natural clues and by compass. You learn to estimate distance underwater, follow navigation patterns and know where you are while following an arbitrary, irregular course using the Nav-Finder.

Courses with 4 Dives:

      
Wreck Diver - Whether sunk intentionally or tragically, whether a sunken ship, a plane or an automobile, the call of wrecks is nearly irresistible to divers. Through the Wreck Diver Specialty course, you get the skills, knowledge and procedures you need to answer the call of wreck diving.

      Deep Diver - The Deep Diver Specialty course offers you the opportunity of a lifetime - going deep to see things others can only dream about.  You'll learn deep dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and hazards. You'll also put this knowledge to the test as you go on four open water dives that range from 60 to 130 feet.

      Search & Recovery Diver - Have you ever dropped something in the water? Are you looking for lost treasure? The Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course will teach you effective ways to find objects underwater and bring them to the surface.  You'll learn search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problems. You'll also cover limited visibility, search patterns and safe object recovery using lift devices.
